PC2400 Eeprom Programmer for Field Service

PC 2400 I²C Field Service Programmer

If an eeprom fails in a modern TV set, it can mean returning the set to a workshop for a replacement to be fitted. With the PC2400, the eeprom can be read, verified or reprogrammed ’in situ’ saving both time and money and providing a better service to the customer. An in-circuit lead is supplied complete with high quality clips for both DIL and SOIC 24CXX eeproms so that, in most cases, no de-soldering is required.

The design brief was to produce a low cost programmer which is easy to use and flexible enough to cater for future products. In addition, it had to be capable of connecting to a laptop’s USB port as modern PCs do not have RS232 or Centronics ports. The PC2400 more than meets these criteria.

To aid in-circuit programming of sets with more than one device on the IIC bus, the user can specify the slave address. This means that the in-circuit lead can be clipped over a readily accessible part and an inaccessible part read or programmed, etc. It is even possible to store the data from an eeprom to a PC’s hard disc.

To cater for future products, the programmer can in-circuit program parts in both 3V and 5V systems without operator intervention.
